2011 Events Schedule

Highlighted events are those chosen at the Annual General Meeting for the Regiment to focus our attention on this year.

Jan 7-9: Battle of New Orleans - Chalmette, LA
Re-enactment of the famous 1812 battle at Chalmette National Park features military drills, musket firings and cooking demonstrations with period costumes. On Saturday night, guided lantern tours illuminate the “night before the battle” within warring encampments. Call (504) 589-4428 for more information.
Jan 22: River Raisin Memorial - Monroe, MI
Join the many participants from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Canada, along with Native Americans and residents of Monroe Michigan as we remember this bloody battle and massacre that took place on January 22nd and 23rd, 1813. The commemoration is held on the very ground along the River Raisin where hundreds of lives were lost protecting our freedom in the early years of the United States.

It is a convention for people interested in military history, as well as historical reenactors of all time periods, spanning from the days of the Roman Empire through Vietnam. It is completely unique in this regard... a celebration of the hobby of historical reenacting as a whole. A chance to learn about other time periods, as well as your own!
Feb 19-20: Battle of Ogdensburg - Ogdensburg, NY

Apr 12: 41st Regiment Lecture Series - Guelph, ON
The 13th installment of their War of 1812 Lecture Series. Rick Finch will discuss the vital role that the men of Kentucky played in the War of 1812. So often the opponents of the 41st Regiment and the citizens of Upper Canada, Kentucky sent thousands of men to fight in all theatres of the war and paid severely, suffering the most casualties of any state. Rick will look at their participation in some of the major actions in the theatre of the U.S. “Old Northwest” and western Upper Canada.
Apr 16: 1812 Conference Fort Meigs - Perrysburg, OH
Learn about fashions of the early 19th Century and more! Knowledgeable presenters will discuss many facets of men and women's clothing of the time period. Highlights include admission to Fort Meigs, period merchants, and optional Sunday workshops.
Apr 29-30: War of 1812 Symposium - Ogdensburg, NY
The Third Annual War of 1812 Symposium is presented by the region’s Fort La Présentation Association.
Apr 30- May 1: Battle of Longwoods - London, ON
Step back in time to March 4, 1814, as British troops attempt to expel American invaders. Hear the crack of the musket and the roar of the cannon. Come and experience life in the early 19th century. See the colourful clothing, smell the food prepared over open fires, and let us entertain your family for the day.
May ?: 1812 War College - Ogdensburg, NY
a daylong series of five seminars will examine aspects of the war affecting Sackets Harbor and Ogdensburg, NY and Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. Lectures, displays and a concert of early 19th-century, including a continental breakfast, buffet lunch and sit-down dinner, for only $55US.
May 13-15: Yorkville 1812 - Yorkville, IL
Reenactors from both 1812 North America and the Napoleonic era in Europe are welcome. We will have camps set up in the village area and the battlefield will be just beyond the railroad depot (for those of you that have an idea of the layout at Lyon Farm.
May 16: Northwest Co. 1812 - Pine City, MN
It's 1812 and Mr. Madison has declared war. The N.W. Company is preparing to protect their interests in the West. We will be raising a corps of voyageurs to rally for the cause. Come prepared to march, make your own militia hat, experience camp life and talk with soldiers about military life.
May 28-29: Fort Meigs - Perrysburg, OH
The British are coming! United States and British soldiers as well as Woodland Indians recreate historic 1813 battles at Fort Meigs. See recreated battles, musket and artillery demonstrations, and camp life demonstrations. Returning this year is "1813 Patrol." Accompany a squad of American soldiers as they scout around the fort.
June 3-5: Battle of Stoney Creek - Stoney Creek, ON
Battlefield House Museum and Park, National Historic Site presents the 28th annual Re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek on June 6 and 7, 2009. The event was declared one of the top 50 events in Ontario by Festivals and Events Ontario in 2006.

June 4: Celebrate Barrie, 1812 encampment - Barrie, ON
They are looking to expand the 19th Century/War of 1812 encampment this year to include more presenters, displays, period musicians and a tactical arms and drill demonstration including period watercraft. We are looking for re-enactors to partake in this one day event at Heritage Park in downtown Barrie.

Visitors can inspect American military campsites and learn first-hand by talking with soldiers and civilians what was happening on the Niagara Frontier and in the Genesee Country during the war.

July 8-10: Crysler's Farm - Morrisburg, ON
The Friends of Crysler's Farm will be staging three War of 1812 battle re-enactments at the battlefield Memorial and inside Upper Canada Village on the weekend of July 11 and 12, 2009. Among these will be the 196th anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Crysler's Farm, on Sun., July 12.
July 16-17: Fort George Timeline - Niagara-on-the-lake, ON
 
July 20-24: Wasaga Under Siege - Wasaga Beach, ON
Wasaga Beach will feature authentic War of 1812 tactics, historical battles, marine assault landings, artillery, and much more. A professional public address announcer will narrate each battle event as a series of fictional and historical battle scenarios will be presented to the public over a three day period. The Grand Encampment at Nancy Island Historic Site will feature over 400 re-enactors opening their living history encampments to the public along with 19th century merchants, artisans, period cooking, musket and cannon demonstrations, and period entertainment featuring, Ceol Cara, Caber Toss, Washboard Hank, The Zoom Daddy's and Backroads.
July 30-31: Sackets Harbor - Sackets Harbor, NY
Following the outbreak of war between the United States and Great Britain in June 1812, Sackets Harbor became the center of American naval and military activity for the upper St. Lawrence Valley and Lake Ontario. In an attempt to destroy the American shipyard, a British-Canadian force launched an attack on May 29, 1813, while the majority of the American forces were attacking Fort George.
July 30-31: Fort Malden Timeline - Amherstburg, ON
For 200 years, fortifications at Fort Malden have witnessed and participated in the struggles which helped forge a new nation out of the North American wilderness. An army garrison, British Indian Department post, dockyard for the Upper Great Lakes and the meeting place for Chief Tecumseh and British General Brock - the fort has been all these.
Aug 6-7: Seige of Fort Erie - Fort Erie, ON
The year is 1812. You're far from home in the unknown wilds of Upper Canada. The place is Fort Erie and war is in the air. All around you are the exciting sights and sounds of men preparing for battle. Step back into a time of red coats, black powder and gray fortress walls. Over 200 years of living history resides within, at Old Fort Erie.
Aug 13: Bladensburg Encampment - Riverdale Park, MD
The only recognition of the Battle of Bladensburg has been the Annual August Anniversary Encampment and Re-enactment at the Riversdale Mansion in Riverdale, MD just south of UMD and College Park, MD and just north of Bladensburg itself. While the battle was actually on August 24, the "anniversary" encampment is usually about August 14.

Sept 3-4: 1812 Fort Niagara - Youngstown, NY
American and British forces recreate the War of 1812 on the Niagara Frontier. Programs daily from 10 am - 4 pm and a night battle depicting the British capture of Fort Niagara on Saturday at 7pm.

Sept 9-11: Battle of Plattsburg - Plattsburg, NY
This event commemorates a totally unexpected American victory which thwarted the British plans to control Lake Champlain and led to the signing of the Treaty of Ghent which ended the War of 1812 on Christmas Eve, 1814.
Sept 10-11: Backus Mill - Port Rowan, ON
(Crown Forces event - All Crown Units encouraged to attend) Come and watch a battle as it was during the conflict of 1812 between The United States of America and Great Britain (Upper Canada). Shop at the historical merchants and suttlers. Tour the grounds of this magnificent and historic site. Truly, an educational, fun, and exciting day for all ages!
Sept 10-11: Fort McHenry - Baltimore, MD
Join us for Fort McHenry’s flagship event! This three-day encampment and extravaganza is celebrated with over 100 War of 1812 reenactors, parades, military bands, fireworks, a symbolic ship-to-shore bombardment and much more!
Sept 16-17: 9 Mile Portage Festival - Minesing, ON
During the War of 1812, the British military improved the route for the transport of supplies and personnel as the lower lakes were occupied by the Americans. Following the War, the route remained active and what was know as "the portage landing" grew into the community known as Barrie. The portage route starts at Heritage Park in downtown Barrie and ends at the resurrected British supply depot, Fort Willow, located in Springwater Township. Fort Willow was a supply depot for military supplies and trade good during the War of 1812.

Oct 1-2: Fanshawe 1812 - London, ON
Spend a day in the 19th century at Fanshawe Pioneer Village. The past comes alive through daily demonstrations of 19th century trades and farming practices, domestic chores and social pastimes by costumed interpreters. Each visit promises something new to explore and discover.
Oct 7-9: Mississinewa 1812 - Marion, IN
Mississinewa 1812 is the largest War of 1812 living history event in the United States. sponsored by the Mississinewa Battlefield Society, it is a historical commemoration of the Battle of Mississinewa fought here on December 17-18, 1812. It is a step back in time to 1812.
Oct ?: Sully Plantation Militia Muster - Chantilly, VA
Completed in 1799 by Richard Bland Lee, the main house at Sully combines aspects of Georgian and Federal architecture. Richard Bland Lee was Northern Virginia's first Representative to Congress, as well as General Robert E. Lee's uncle. Sully includes original outbuildings, representative slave quarter and gardens. Guided tours highlight the early 19th century life of the Richard Bland Lee family, tenant farmers and enslaved African Americans. Programs reflect the history of Fairfax County through the 20th century.
Oct ?: Fort Osage Fall Muster - Kansas City, MO
The reconstructed Fort overlooks the Missouri River and is portrayed as it was in 1812. You'll get a glimpse back in time by seeing authentically attired interpreters using living history to provide insight into the daily life of the Fort's military and civilian population. Built in 1808, under the direction of William Clark, the design of the Fort reflects its dual role as military garrison and trade center.
Nov 5-7: Battle of Tippecanoe - Indiana
One culture sought land for a new home and a new hope; while the other sought to maintain their home and the old ways. Cultures would clash on the Indiana Frontier. The first volley of the War of 1812 would be fired in this remote wilderness.
